What brought you to fly fishing? I grew up living on the High Street, where 300–400 yards of river flowed through the back garden. Watching anglers on nearby waters sparked my interest, and by the time I was 20 or 21, I started taking private lessons at Holbury Lakes Trout Fishery. One of my best friends was a passionate fly angler, and before long, I made the switch from lakes to rivers. I was a regular customer at Orvis, so when a position opened up, I went for it—and that’s what truly launched my journey in the angling world. Fifteen years later, here I am.

Favourite Fly Fishing Memory Taking a crowd of people to Slovenia about 12 years ago, before it got popular. Crystal clear waters, deep gorges and great camaraderie with other people on the water.

What brought you to fly fishing? I had tried all styles of coarse fishing and wanted to give fly fishing go, I took up fly fishing for chub, roach, barbel, perch and various coarse fish when I was 20 in 1996 (yes I’m that old!). Being Midlands based at the time, I didn’t have that much local access to trout and grayling waters. Eventually I began to explore Mid Wales and the Wye catchment, following catching my first grayling, I pretty much became obsessed.

What brought you to fly fishing? My dad introduced me to fishing when I was just eight years old. After a long break, I found my way back to the sport in my late 30s, following his passing. Wanting to honour his legacy, I took over his membership at his fly fishing club and returned to the water. Being on the riverbank makes me feel connected to him—and every time I catch a fish, I can’t help but think, "Thanks for all the fish."

Favourite Fly Fishing Memory Slovenia, I've been 5 times and it's just a great place to fish. I caught my first ever marble trout there on my last cast, on the last day of the trip.
